This residential remodel is in the heart of downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea. The design preserves the home's original beach house charm while enhancing its connection to the surrounding landscape, particularly the serene eastern views.
A window wall and clerestory windows were introduced to bring natural light deep into the interior and create a seamless dialogue between the home and its environment. The new layout connects the living room and kitchen to both the front and back yards, maximizing the indoor-outdoor living experience and creating a more open, fluid relationship with the site.
To enrich the character of the renovated home, a warm terracotta color palette was introduced. This not only adds vibrancy and personality to the design but also creates a striking contrast with the existing structure, blending the old and new in a thoughtful, cohesive way.
