Located on a bluff at the northern edge of Big Sur, this new home replaces one which was demolished before our clients purchased the site. The building area is very tight and designing a good arrival sequence was the biggest challenge for this project.
The design takes advantage of the steep topography which allows for a one story appearance at the entry level where all the public areas are located and connect to the northern patios. Bedrooms are located on the lower level which connects to the southern and western patios.
Considering the amount of glazing on the upper floor the floor and ceiling finishes became of utmost importance. Wire brushed wide plank teak was chosen for the flooring and wide plank ash ceiling for the ceiling. We are looking forward to working on the cabinetry and all the fine detailing!
